The pup is learning

Greg and I took Maverick to his 2nd training on Saturday but this time it was away from home. We took him to an old trainer (she can barely walk but she's good) and it was just us. She even locked the door to make sure of that. She immediately said...OK..take the muzzle and leash off and let him run around. Greg and I looked at each other like...um...no thats why we're here. She said..."I have band-aides if we need em...take 'em off!" As soon as he ran around the room a bit and got compfy..she gave him treats.

We were there about 1.5 hrs and she worked with him then had us work on things. He growled at her twice but Greg pulled him away to play with a ball to get his mind off of what he was growling at. She said puppies get bored and don't like certain situations so they get angry. If you change the environment they forget what they were angry about. She also had a clicker and clicked it when he growled then gave him a treat. This can help his mind "click" over to something else. They have such short memories that they can forget what they were upset about.

She has lived with a dog like him before and basically said we can train him but he may still need to stay away from people especially when there are a lot of people in the house. She praised us for saving him and for not giving up on him. He's such a cute little boy and she said he learns so well and so fast.

Other than this...I worked all weekand. Need to make that money for the certified letter I got in the mail saying Geico is dropping me. Progressive wants to charge me over $1000 for 6 months so thats what I'm going to have to do. 2 speeding tickets within a month of each other and 1 bumper accident in '03 and another bumper accident in '05 wasn't good for Geico.

Gotta get back to work and I'm thinking of Dad non-stop..worrying myself again until he is better.

  • Wow, sounds like a lot of work dealing with the puppy, but I'm sure it's worth it. Don't you wish we were all that easily distracted from the things that make us angry? "I'm so mad at you!...Oooh, a cupcake! Cupcake good..."

Anyway, I talked to dad for a while last night on the phone and he was doing great. I'm sure he's eager to have this all done with, but it will be all good soon enough.

  • hahaha cupcake.....yeah wouldn't that be nice?

I love you checking in here! You can see what I'm up to..now if only you would update yours....;)

I didn't call last night like I said I would but I'm glad you did. I'm sure we are all eager to get it done and over with and have our good ol' dad back to normal again.

Have a good day!! I can't wait to see you (and hopefully Matt) on the 26th!
